Can I use this phone w/o data?! PLEASE HELP ME!!?
Ok, so I really want to get the palm pixi and its a perfect phone for me, except it has to have a data plan which im not allowed to have. :/ I know if i buy the phone unlocked i wont have to have the data plan but they cost so much like around 200-300 dollars and i cant afford that. but I'm so confused because i see phones like this

that are from att and claim they dont need a contract but people are saying that the people at att will see that its a smart phone and charge me for data. And I dont want to pay to get the phone unlocked!!
Holy crap its so confusing i dont even WANT a data plan i dont need it!!! Is there anyway with all these quirks and issues that i can still have this phone?

If you are using a Smartphone on At&T's network it will appear and you will be responsible for the data plan, even if it is an unlocked phone, even if you do not have a "contract". People will tell you that there are ways around this, and I know there are probably people who have slipped through the cracks so far, but they are few and far between. Eventually the system recognizes it and the plan you are required to pay for will be added.
Even if you try to get around it by calling ATT and lying, claiming that you aren't and have never used that smartphone, the may fall for it the first time, but it will be on the memos in your account and they won't fall for it again.
Plain and simple Smartphone = dataplan
